Given the imminent entry into force of the new German gaming regulation, the granting of licenses and therefore the continuity of the sector's operations cannot go unnoticed. On this occasion, we highlight that ADMIRAL Sportwetten, a sports betting provider of LÖWEN ENTERTAINMENT, a company of the NOVOMATIC Group, has received a license from the Darmstadt regional council to organize sports betting in Germany.
To announce this new achievement, ADMIRAL Sportwetten has published a press release summarizing its multiple attempts to participate in the sports betting market on the basis of a German license.
More specifically, the company explains that in 2014 “20 licenses were granted as part of a two-stage review process three years after the approval of the State Gaming Treaty, and ADMIRAL Sportwetten was one of the few private providers based in Germany that received one of these licenses. "
Notably, this process was deemed legally unsafe and ultimately failed after several lawsuits from unlicensed providers.
Then, at the end of 2017 ADMIRAL Sportwetten decided to enter the German sports betting business under the ADMIRALBET brand. Now, in 2020 it has applied for the license under the new regulation and they have obtained it.
In this regard, Oliver Bagus, CEO of ADMIRAL Sportwetten, said:
"This is an important step for our company that we very much welcome. With it, the regulator creates a legally secure foundation for us as a private provider for the first time."
