In Puerto Rico, the end of 2020 brought with it the signing of Senate Bill 1534, which amends Law 81 of 2019 (known as the Gaming Commission Law of the Government of Puerto Rico) and lays the foundations for the regulation of the online gaming industry, which will be a great incentive for the establishment of companies and the generation of thousands of jobs.
The measure was signed by the former governor of Puerto Rico, Wanda Vázquez Garced, but it will be up to the new administration of governor-elect Pedro Pierluisi to monitor its implementation.
It should be noted that Law 81 establishes the policy of the Government of Puerto Rico for both land-based and online gaming, including sports betting, electronic game leagues and fantasy contests. It also establishes measures to avoid problematic gaming, money laundering and the participation of minors, among other objectives.
