The CIBELAE (Ibero-American Confederation of State Lotteries and Betting) Board of Directors held its second annual meeting on July 16, 2024, with all members present, including new additions Rita Prates, Vice President of Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa, and Ida López, President of the Argentine Association of State Lotteries (ALEA).
During the meeting, the Board approved the addition of new members to CIBELAE. The Puerto Rico Lottery joined as a regular member, while SBC and Culloden were accepted as associate members. This expansion strengthens CIBELAE’s presence and representation in the region.
2024-2025 Activity Agenda
The Board set the schedule for upcoming events for 2024-2025, including:
- September 20 to October 2, 2024, in San Salvador, El Salvador: CIBELAE Days on “Official Gambling: Prevention of Money Laundering and Innovation.”
- March 26-27, 2025, in Buenos Aires, Argentina: Marketing Seminar.
- Date to be determined in Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil: CIBELAE Seminar, requested by Lottopar.
- Date to be determined in Asunción, Paraguay: XIX CIBELAE International Congress.
CIBELAE also approved the allocation of scholarships, granted by the World Lottery Association (WLA), for its members to participate in joint activities with the WLA. This includes the Responsible Gambling Seminar in Dublin and the World Lottery Summit in Paris. Additionally, CIBELAE will participate in the second annual meeting of regional official lottery associations during the World Lottery Summit in Paris, alongside the WLA and other prominent associations such as the North American Association of State & Provincial Lotteries (NASPL), European Lotteries (EL), Asia Pacific Lottery Association (APLA), and Association des Lotteries d’Afrique (ALA).
Training Platform and New Website
The Executive Directorate reported progress on the development of CIBELAE’s Training Platform, in collaboration with the University of Concepción in Chile, with a launch scheduled for August. Additionally, advancements on the new CIBELAE corporate website were announced, which will feature special content and services for members.
Javier Milián, President of CIBELAE, expressed his satisfaction with the meeting’s outcomes: “We are very pleased with the results and the level of participation in this Board meeting, which allow us to consolidate our activities and strategic collaborations for the benefit of our members and the lottery and betting sector in Ibero-America.”
