The Singapore Casino Regulatory Authority has renewed Marina Bay Sands' license until April 2025, after determining that the establishment meets all the requirements established in the Singapore Casino Control Act.
We must point out that Marina Bay Sands is one of the two casinos in Singapore. The other, Genting's Resorts World Sentosa, also received an extension through 2025 last February.
Recall that on February 14, the bill to reform land-based gambling in Singapore was presented and would establish a single Gaming Regulatory Authority (GRA) instead of several agencies.
The single authority would have up to 17 members, all of whom would be appointed by the Singapore Home Secretary. Each one can hold office for up to 3 years.
On the other hand, the Gambling Control Act would amend several sections of the Singapore Casino Control Act of 2006, creating new definitions for illegal gaming.
Under these regulations, engaging in or offering illegal gambling would be subject to fines of SGD$500,000 and imprisonment for up to 7 years, while repeat offenders could be fined SGD$700,000 and imprisonment for up to 10 years.
