Japan's first casino resort, set to be located on the artificial island of Yumeshima in Osaka, has pushed back its completion date to the fall of 2030, nearly a year later than initially anticipated.
While the agreement for the construction and operation of the resort has been completed in Osaka, the delay is due to the slower-than-expected response from the national government for a prior approval.
Although construction will begin this fall, and the resort's facilities in the spring of 2025, the delay has disappointed many.
While the casino will primarily cater to foreign visitors and likely have restrictions for Japanese citizens, it is seen as a way to capitalize on the tourism boom in the country.
Local government and investors are betting 1.27 trillion yen ($8.6 billion) on this project, but the final outcome will be known in 2030 or even later.
