The Autorité Nationale des Jeux grants Hillside (New Media Malta) PLC a five-year authorisation to operate sports betting via www.bet365.fr
The Autorité Nationale des Jeux (ANJ) has granted Hillside (New Media Malta) PLC, a company linked to bet365, a licence to operate online sports betting in France.
The decision was taken by the board of the French regulatory authority following its deliberation on 16 April 2026 and published on the ANJ website on 22 April 2026.
The agreement authorises Hillside (New Media Malta) PLC to operate online sports betting under licence number 0067-PS-2026-04-16-AGR-00. The authorisation is valid for five years from 16 April 2026, is renewable, and cannot be transferred.
According to the resolution, the authorised online gaming offer is limited to sports betting and will be accessible via the domain www.bet365.fr
, confirming bet365’s regulated entry into the French online sports betting market.
The ANJ also reminds that, before starting operations, the operator must declare to the regulator the activation of the archival storage system required under French online gaming regulations.
The decision also sets out the certification obligations that Hillside must comply with. Within six months of activating the storage system, the operator must submit a document to the ANJ certifying compliance with its technical and data retention obligations. In addition, within one year of obtaining the licence, it must provide certification on the integrity of gaming operations and the security of information systems.
These certifications must be carried out by an independent body included in the list established by the ANJ, at the operator’s expense, and must be updated annually.
The resolution, signed in Issy-les-Moulineaux by ANJ President Isabelle Falque-Pierrotin, will be notified to Hillside (New Media Malta) PLC and published in the Journal officiel de la République française, as well as on the regulator’s website.
The granting of this licence represents a highly significant development in the French market, one of the most strictly regulated environments in Europe, and strengthens the competitive landscape of online sports betting in France.
