SPAIN: The minister Alberto Garzón does not provide data that confirms the drop in online gaming consumption and lengthens the regulation of advertising
The Minister of Consumer Affairs, Alberto Garzón, explained this Monday in Congress that he has been able to totally prohibit the advertising of online gaming on the Internet thanks to the state of alarm and that, therefore, this situation is "temporary".
Garzón has expressed that after approving the decree law on this matter, on April 3, the practice of gaming such as online poker has been reduced "enormously", without providing specific data.
The Minister of Consumer Affairs explained that he has "benefited" from the state of alarm that "gives him" the ability to "temporarily" do this prohibition. "However, he pointed out that, when this situation ends, it will be necessary to begin to modifying the Gaming Procedure Law by customary parliamentary procedures that "will take a long time".
There have also been questions about the new head of the General Directorate for the Regulation of Gambling, Mikel Arana, and the controversy over the "fattening" of the administration in the midst of a crisis. For this reason, Garzón argues that his department is born from two general subdirectories: Consumer and Gaming. The first had two general subdirectories that remain, while the second had three and now only has two.
