Map of the current situation in Spain by phases
In the latest publication of the Official State Bulletin (BOE) it is made official that 52% of Spaniards (24 million people) will be in phase 3 of the de-escalation from today. Also, the document allows the reopening of gaming establishments with a maximum capacity of 50% of their capacity, among other measures.
The plan for the transition to a new normality consists of four phases, which make the restrictions more flexible based on a positive evolution of the virus control, as well as the respective compliance with the hygiene and safety measures established.
The advance of a large part of the Spanish territory to phase 3 allows the gaming sector to reopen under strict protection measures, the most notable of which is the social distancing that will be controlled by the amount of capacity and barrier methods such as use mandatory of masks or the implementation of security separators between machines.
In the BOE of June 6, 2020 the reopening of the sector is allowed under the following terms:
"It may proceed to reopen to the public casinos, establishments for collective games of money and chance, gaming halls, arcades, raffles and tombolas, specific betting venues and other premises and facilities similar to those of recreational gaming activity and bets in accordance with the sectorial regulations on gambling. This reopening is conditional on not exceeding fifty percent of the authorized capacity. Likewise, the remaining conditions and requirements generally foreseen in this order must be fulfilled".
Thus, the limit of 50 people established on May 30 is modified and recalls the mandatory compliance with other hygiene and safety measures.
The BOE also specifies the territories that are advancing to phase 3 today: Andalusia, Aragon, Asturias, the Balearic Islands, the Canary Islands, Cantabria, Galicia, Extremadura, La Rioja, Navarra, Murcia, the Basque Country and the autonomous city of Melilla.
On the other hand, in the specific case of Castilla-La Mancha, only Guadalajara and Cuenca change phases. While, in Catalonia, the sanitary regions of Alt Pirineu i Aran, Terres de l'Ebre and Camp de Tarragona will reach phase 3.
The aforementioned territories join the islands of Formentera (Balearic Islands) and La Gomera, El Hierro and Graciosa (Canary Islands) that had advanced to phase 3 since last Monday, June 1.
