The family of Denise Coates, founder and CEO of bet365, became the top contributor in 2020 after paying £ 573 million in taxes.
While, in the third position of the collection list are Fred and Peter Done, the founders of Betfred, who contributed 191.3 million pounds to the state coffers.
According to information from the Sunday Times, due to the health crisis of COVID-19, the taxes paid by the richest people in the country have been drastically reduced and thanks to the changes applied in the collection methodology, the total tax liability for this year it's nearly 680 million pounds more than last year, up 27 percent to 3.18 billion pounds.
It should be noted that now the tax list counts the gaming rights paid by the betting companies. In this regard, the tax paid by the Coates family and the business is equal to the price of paying 62,725 state pensions for one year.
Robert Watts, compiler of the tax list, said: "These numbers illustrate that when some wealthy people prosper, our public finances feel benefited."
