The Spanish minister confirms stricter new game advertising regulation

Last Friday, the Minister of Consumer Affairs, Alberto Garzón, appeared before the Health and Consumption commission in the Senate where he spoke about the draft of the future regulation of gaming advertising, its similarity to article 37 of the Royal Decree of the state of alarm and its dispatch in the next few days to the European Commission.

This corroborates our exclusive published more than ten days ago, when we anticipated that Garzón was working with his team, in an even stricter online gaming advertising legislation.

During his speech, Garzón indicated that the decree has passed the public consultation phase, which had a great participation of the actors involved. However, he affirmed that due to the “lessons” learned during the state of alarm, many of the measures will be stricter and "the new draft is more like article 37 of the state of alarm than the original draft", so if in the first text there was an 80% reduction in advertising, the document that will be sent to Brussels includes a much higher percentage.

Also, Minister Garzón has expressed that the process around the regulation of advertising has been slower than desired, but his department is working on all the details so that there is no gap to appeal. In Garzón's words: "The regulation of gaming advertising will be technically impeccable so that no one knocks it down."
