Gauselmann Group’s technology reaches schools in Germany to contribute to the social distancing of children

"Red means standing, green means walking": This motto currently applies to students in the Gehlenbeck-Nettelstedt primary school network not just in the usual traffic: Gauselmann's "C-Ampel" admission control system is used to regulate the number of people in school toilets.

“Keeping a distance is one of the most important protective measures against coronavirus in our schools. However, this is not so easy to implement in sanitary areas: on the one hand, children visit the facilities independently, on the other hand, they cannot see in advance how many people are already present. Traffic light C helps here: it fully automatically ensures that there are no more than four children in the toilets at the same time, "explains Silke Gillar, director of the Gehlenbeck-Nettelstedt primary school network.

Traffic light C measures the flow of people using infrared sensor technology and works according to the principle of a two-phase traffic light: if it is green, more people are allowed in, if it is red, the number has been reached maximum and an acoustic warning signal sounds. The number of people who can enter a room can be individually configured.

Lübbeck's network of primary schools has more than 280 pupils, and around 34 children take advantage of day care in Gehlenbeck and Nettelstedt over the summer holidays. Everyone is reacting positively to the new service access system. "At this unusual time, our students are happy with the clear rules because they give them security," reports Silke Gillar. "Whether they are first or fourth grade students, all children know the importance of a stoplight and enthusiastically make sure everyone meets the requirements for signal lights."

"The C traffic light is being used in a school for the first time, and it is precisely here that it impresses with its simple and intuitive handling," adds Gauselmann Group product manager Jendrik Volkmann. "With the C light, an intelligent entry control system is offered that is versatile and literally easy to use."

After a two-week testing phase at Nettelstedt, the C light will be used throughout the day at Gehlenbeck Elementary School starting next week. After the summer break, there is a proof of use in regular school operations.
