Brazil Requires Online Betting Companies to Register with Consumer Protection Portal
The Ministry of Justice and Public Security and the Ministry of Finance in Brazil mandate that all online betting companies register on the platform Consumidor.gov.br, aiming to enhance transparency and provide an effective channel for conflict resolution.

Wadih Damous, the National Secretary of Consumer Affairs at the Ministry of Justice and Public Security, highlighted the significance of this new directive. "The requirement to register on Consumidor.gov.br is a crucial step in ensuring that bettors' rights are upheld. This registration provides Brazilians a direct and efficient means to file and track their complaints, thus improving the balance in consumer relations," he stated.

Régis Dudena, Secretary of Prizes and Betting at the Ministry of Finance, also emphasized the need for transparency in the operations of betting companies. "The participation of betting operators on the Consumidor.gov.br platform reflects the Ministry of Finance's commitment to ensuring that all activities are carried out in accordance with legal norms, respecting consumers and bettors," he added.

With the incorporation of betting companies into this platform, various agencies within the National Consumer Defense System will be able to monitor and track complaints to ensure greater security and reliability in the sector. Consumidor.gov.br, which has already resolved over 8.9 million complaints with a resolution rate of approximately 81%, will serve as a crucial channel for protecting bettors' rights.

To verify if a company is authorized, consumers can log on to Consumidor.gov.br and search by the operator's name before making any bets.

To file a complaint, users must visit Consumidor.gov.br, search for the name of the betting company (all must be registered), and submit their issue. This initiates a 10-day period for the company to respond. During this time, the consumer and the company can interact directly. After the company's final response, the consumer is given the option to comment on the response received, rate whether their issue was resolved, and indicate their satisfaction level with the service.
