King Felipe and Queen Letizia in videoconference
The debate and restaurant sector has informed King Felipe and Queen Letizia through a videoconference how the Coronavirus crisis has affected annual income, to the point that it could mean a loss of 55,000 million euros in 2020.
The president of the trade body of bars and restaurants in Spain, José Luis Yzuel Sanz, the vice presidents Pere Chias Suriol, Alfredo García Quintana and Mikel Ubarrechena Pisón, as well as their general secretary, Emilio Gallego Zuazo, participated in the conversation.
The representatives of the sector affirm that due to the paralysis of practically all its activity, approximately 40,000 companies will have serious difficulties in surviving this crisis. In addition, they explained that there are 680,000 jobs affected and the loss of more than 200,000 jobs is possible.
The trade body of bars and restaurants in Spain also highlights the decrease of approximately 5,000 million euros in VAT collection, not counting the social spending involved in supporting those who lose their jobs, which can reach 3,500 million euros.
The representatives of the bars and restaurants sector also alerted King Felipe and Queen Letizia about the consequences of the fall of more than 60% of tourism revenue, which translates into a loss of more than 90,000 million euros.
