New anti-Covid measures have resulted in a new closure of the Catalan hospitality industry, a sector that only provides takeaway food service for the next 15 days.
The Catalan government has announced that it will approve a decree law that will include direct aid in the order of 40 million euros, destined to the premises that have had a greater impact on their income.
In this regard, Hospitality of Spain qualifies these grants as ridiculous and a kind of makeup, because when dividing between almost 44,000 bars and restaurants it would be 1,000 euros per establishment. Likewise, it calls for an official salvation plan to be able to preserve a sector that contributes 6.2% of GDP and generates thousands of jobs.
José Luis Yzuel, President of the Hospitality Industry of Spain, recalls that the restrictive measures in Catalonia, together with those in Madrid and Navarra, may worsen the expected scenario that 1 in 3 bars will disappear in Spain due to the Covid-19 crisis, In other words, there are currently more than 100,000 stores on the brink of closure.
Currently, according to the figures from the Hospitality Industry of Spain, the sector is 50 or 55% of the level of turnover considering the previous year.
On the other hand, the Generalitat announces an extraordinary line of guarantees and other aid for the sector
