A criminal complaint has been filed against 18 influencers for their alleged involvement in the illegal online gambling chain in Argentina. The Argentine Chamber of Casino, Bingo, and Annex Rooms (CASCBA) has taken this action as part of its efforts to combat illegal online gambling and protect minors.
Flor Vigna, with 5.5 million Instagram followers; Alma Galarza Berezowski, with 3.5 million followers; Sasha Antonella Ferro, with 1.7 million followers; "Los Displicentes," with 2.3 million YouTube subscribers; and Flavio Azzaro, with over 500,000 followers, are among the influencers accused of promoting illegal online gambling on platforms such as Instagram, X, YouTube, and Twitch.
Illegal sites, which operate without a license and evade taxes in Argentina, allow minors to participate, causing significant harm to society. Additionally, these sites are unsafe for consumers and pose unfair competition to regulated sites that comply with laws and pay high taxes. Legal sites can be identified by the .bet.ar domain, while illegal ones use domains like .com, .com.ar, .net, and .la, among others.
The decision to take legal action against these influencers is based on the responsibility to maintain a safe digital environment. By using their platforms to promote illegal activities, these individuals are not only breaking the law but also undermining public trust in regulations designed to protect consumers, particularly minors.
Cooperation and transparency from social networks, virtual wallets, and digital platforms are crucial to prevent these illegal practices from continuing. This initiative is part of more than 350 complaints filed against illegal sites and a public awareness campaign launched during the Copa América, highlighting the benefits of playing on legal sites that pay taxes, have controls to prevent excesses, and do not allow minors to participate. This campaign is supported by the Association of Argentine State Lotteries (ALEA) and the active participation of the Buenos Aires Lottery (LOTBA).
The complaint is a crucial step in protecting minors and consumer rights. The impact of these actions goes beyond immediate legal implications, aiming to send a strong message to the digital community and the online entertainment industry: the promotion of illegal and dangerous activities will not be tolerated, and those who choose to engage in such practices will face legal consequences. Let us protect our young people.
